Sing praises to God, sing praises! Ps 47:6

David the Psalmist knew how to turn his heart and affections to God when he found himself socially isolated. Psalm headings tell us of some of the Psalms formed at key moments of his life.

Psalm 57 is a Miktam of David, when he fled from Saul, in the cave. In the Psalm David takes refuge in God and cries out to him. He expresses trust and confidence that God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness. Verses 7-11 then declare…

My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody! Awake, my glory! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn! I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!

Psalms 57:7‭-‬11 ESV

Elsewhere in the Psalms David tells of how he loves to praise God alongside others. Many of us also long to praise God again in midst of the congregation. Yet, like David, let us continue to pour out our hearts to God and sing and express praise, worship, trust and confidence in Him even when separated physically from the rest of God’s people.

Use some of the songs in these playlists or use other playlists, psalms, hymns and spiritual songs!

…but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart,  giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Eph 5:18b-20

  1. Hi everyone,
There are a few songs that I am making an effort to listen to on a regular basis during this season…

    1) Never Once – Matt Redman

“Scars and struggles on the way
But with joy our hearts can say
Never once did we ever walk alone”

    2) Do It Again – Elevation Worship

    “Your promise still stands
    Great is Your faithfulness
    I’m still in Your hands
    This is my confidence
    You’ve never failed me yet”

    3) I Choose To Worship – Rend Collective

“When the enemy says I’m done
    I lift my praises
When my world comes crashing down
    I lift my praises high
Till the darkness turns to dawn
    I lift my praises
    I choose to worship
    I choose You now”

These are great reminders of the fact that even when we are caught in the middle of a raging storm, He still stands in the storm with us and we should strive in continuing to honour and praise him when everything seems to be falling apart around us. If you haven’t heard any of these songs, I hope you are able to take something from them. Looking forward to hearing what other songs are being listened to.

  4. Such a good resource for us all! Thanks Gavin and Jonathan for equipping us for confident singing at home! However much we know we can worship at home, I’m certainly missing the musical lead that these tracks give us.

I couldn’t find Blessed be your Name… can we hvae it please? (or maybe I wasn’t looking properly!)

  5. Great tunes Gavin and Jonathan! I can’t get enough of Zach Williams at the moment and have just signed up for Spotify (I know, get with the times Di!).
Some of his songs have all the right words for this time – soul searching, Spirit bouncing, heart pulling and character shaping lyrics from his Rescue Story album starting with Walk With You – “In this running with the devil world, I’m gonna walk with you”. It gets better every-time you listen to the album!! Be Blessed by Mr Williams and his throaty gargles, all for Jesus!

    1. I put the songs on shuffle & listened while I made Malteser cake in the kitchen last night. I always think of my CCD family when I make that cake, so it helped me to imagine OUR worship group singing along too.

My current stimulus to prayer is Psalm 126, which begins: “When the LORD restored the fortunes of a Zion, we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy.”
